Building Mr Right
It was an honest convo with attorney-at-law Annaliesa Lindsay, last week’s Cocktails With guest — who shared that her idea of the perfect man is “one with the right faults”– that spawned the idea for this feature.
Week after fabulous week, the city-chic femmes of The Rock are not shy about dishing just what they expect of any man looking to be their ‘Right’ in shining armour.
Using their responses, SO has come up with a festive formula for building Mr Right…and because styling at a fab do is the ‘MO’ this season, it might just be the perfect opportunity to bear these qualities in mind.
“… considerate, loves fast cars and fast women like me and not allergic to champagne or any kind of alcohol (laughs) …”
— Karen Kranenberg, Polo & More editor
“He also must have good hygiene and be ambitious.”
— Renée Hartley
“Someone who is not egotistic; a tall, dark and handsome man with proper oral hygiene. He must be educated with a profession. Someone who is sensitive, but not overly so. He must also be respectful of others and chivalrous.”
— Etana
“Someone who’s honest, listens and treats me like I’m the last woman on Earth.”
— Ashley Martin
“Grant (Hill), my husband.”
— Tamia
“He must be a man who loves the Lord and I believe once he does that, everything else will fall into place.”
— Alicia McCalla
“He must have a sense of humour; intelligent; tall, dark and ‘bodied’ (laughs). He must be well put together, attractive, financially secure and spiritual.”
— Sandra Samuels
“Confident, motivated, happy and one with all of his teeth…”
— Alaine
“Driven, grounded, God-fearing, supportive and has core values that reflect an understanding of what is really important in life.”
— Nicole McLaren
“He doesn’t have to run a marathon but he has to share my love of adventure, be athletic…”
— Dr Alison Cross
“I wish I knew, ’cause he does not exist. The notion of perfection must include the acceptance of the imperfectability of man.”
— Nikki Vassell
“If there were such a thing, he would have to be tall, handsome, intelligent, funny, a great conversationalist and communicator, genuine and romantic.”
— Canise Jackson aka CJ
“Tall, dark and handsome (laughs)! No, that’s actually a joke, I must confess that I’m attracted to nerds… the trendy kind, though.”
— Odessa Chambers
“Hmmm. He doesn’t actually exist! But the perfect man is the one whose imperfections remain perfect in my eyes.”
— Anya Ayoung-Chee
“I love a guy who’s ‘roots’… he mustn’t spend too much time looking in the mirror, and he’s got to be really deep, ’cause I love having enlightening conversations.”
— Nicole ‘Sky’ Grey
“I believe there’s someone for everybody, so my brand of perfect is out there somewhere. But to list qualities or traits, I’d say he must be as busy as I am, otherwise it won’t work. He has to be a man’s man with a bad-boy side; needs to be able to put me in my place sometimes and know how to make me feel like a lady.”
— Kamila McDonald
“Educated, warm, honest and he must be a good father.”
— Dr Anissa Holmes
“He must be educated and be a man who is interested in art and music, because if that is the case he would more than likely be openhearted and -minded.”
— Christina Benjamin
“Employed! (laughing) He has to have a job; a sense of humour; someone who adores his mother because that means he’ll probably adore me too; needs to be a good conversationalist; being easy on the eyes wouldn’t hurt and he must dress well, possess class and sophistication.”
— Shelly-Ann Daley
“Artistic… I definitely like guys who understand the creative process. Also, I appreciate guys who are confident, somebody who makes me feel good. I don’t really have a type since I’ve dated all kinds.”
— Julia ‘Jules’ Dougall
“Intense sense of humour, one who can hang with anybody. One who is very intelligent and who can fix anything or at least pretend that he can.”
— Rochelle Cameron
“Ahhh… no baby-mama drama; educated and obviously gainfully employed. Monogamous, if I can find one. He must have a sense of humour and be into me more than he is into himself.”
— Terry-Ann Arnold
“I like a man who’s a little downtown mixed with uptown… he should be able to check out Bembe and look just as comfy going to the Style Awards.”
— Tara Playfair-Scott
