Cocktails With — Tonoya Toyloy-Williams
Miss Jamaica World 2004-cum-pharmacist Tonoya Toyloy-Williams recently acquired her PhD in pharmacology from the University of Florida, and is all set to start the January semester at the University of Technology (UTech) where she has taken up a post as lecturer. We’re chilling with her at the Breath launch and finding out what she’s been up to.
What are you sipping?
Red wine.
What brings you to the Breath launch?
Being a pharmacist and a good friend of Dr Madu, I had to come and see what Breath was all about… health care and wellness is what I do, so I’m always curious to track any development within the medical industry.
Socialite or homebody?
Homebody… you don’t see me anywhere do you?
Jeans or LBD?
The little black dress, but I do love my jeans.
Flats or stilettos?
I think stilettos look better, but I have to wear flats as I’m on my feet for long periods.
What’s your style?
My style is comfy on a regular day, but when I venture out I like to do it up… I don’t like to wear the same outfit twice (laughs).
What’s in your clutch?
My credit card, my BlackBerry and my invitation… my every-day bag has everything but the kitchen sink (laughs).
Who does your hair?
I do, and I get a keratin treatment from Maureen’s Hair and Now.
Who does your nails?
I do, but every now and then I get a ‘mani/pedi’ at Jencare.
Where’s the best place to find you?
At home! That’s where I like to spend all my time.
What perfume(s) are you spraying?
I like Bvlgari, Dolce and Gabbana Blue and Versace Noir… I like to switch things up.
What’s your idea of the perfect date?
One with my husband, where we share dinner and a movie. I’m a simple girl, doesn’t take much to make me happy.
What’s your idea of the perfect man?
I could talk about my husband: tall, handsome, educated, kind and loving.
What’s your latest obsession?
It’s this great website for clothes, but I don’t want to say which it is, ’cause I want to be the only one wearing the clothes, so I’m keeping that info to myself (laughs).
What’s in your car stereo?
Alicia Keys and Maxwell for the both of us, Jay-Z for him and I’m a closet fan of Drake now, but I guess it isn’t so closet now that I’ve just said it (laughs).
What’s it like being ‘Dr Pharmacist’?
It’s actually very exciting; an opportunity to advance pharmacy, and as one of the first group of people to have a degree of such it gives me the opportunity to make headway in the industry.
What projects are you working on?
In January I’ll be going to the University of Technology to lecture at the school of pharmacy… and I’m also working on owning my own pharmacy and that project is in its final stages.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
I’ve been given great advice from my parents and my husband, but answering in a second I’d have to say my high school motto: Age Quod Agis (she’s a Wolmer’s alum), which means “Whatever you, do it well”. It’s a mantra I live by.
And 10 years from now?
I’d love to be a successful businesswoman, mother, humanitarian and a overall better person.
