Questions on Mona Road repairs
Dear Editor,
On Saturday, November 27 the residents of Mona witnessed signs being erected along Mona Road giving notice that a section of Mona Road between Karachi Avenue and Wellington Drive would be closed, effective the next day. I confess that at the time of writing this letter I was ignorant of the reason and since I do not know which government agency is doing the work, I don’t know whom to contact to ask relevant questions such as:
* Is one day enough notice for a community to adjust to the loss of a major thoroughfare? If notice was given through other means, how? And when?
*What is the duration of the project, and in the same way the signs indicate the start and the closure, couldn’t they have included the projected end? This would have the double effect of managing the expections of the community as well as setting public performance targets for the contractor.
*How about placing a stop light at the intersection of Blue Castle Drive and Old Hope Road?It is almost impossible for traffic to turn right off Blue Castle Drive on to Old Hope Road as the southbound lane of Old Hope Road is always very busy. This is a disaster waiting to happen and will also help to alleviate the traffic on the detour route.
