The Blazing DJ Mario
Mario Wedderburn, more commonly known as DJ Mario is a 22-year-old aspiring Disc Jockey. Formally of the Wolmer’s High School for Boys, and hailing from Portmore, he is now one of the newest recruits at Blaze Night Club as a resident DJ. With his plan to create big waves in the music industry, TEENage sat down with the laid-back DJ Mario for a closer look at him and his DJ talent.
TEENage: What inspired you to become a DJ?
Mario Wedderburn (MW): In high school, I was introduced to the music fraternity by Creep from Chromatic, and I have always looked up to DJ Delano from Renaissance.
TEENage: How are you different to others in the field?
MW: I would say my musical style is a bit different. My transitions, my selections of music and especially my vibe.
TEENage: You mentioned your musical style, tell us more about that.
MW: I play music that people want to hear, and I play based on the overall vibe, But I love to experiment with all genres of music.
TEENage: What’s your favourite genre?
MW: I love hip hop, and from a tender age I have been watching BET and from there I just fell in love with Hip Hop.
TEENage: As a young DJ, where do you want to travel?
MW: I would love for the music to take me worldwide.
TEENage: You’ve made your mark in a few locations already. Give us an idea of the events you’ve played at already.
MW: I have played at Gracias, Blue Rush, Shoot Out and Heat Wave.
TEENage: What’s next for DJ Mario?
MW: I am currently playing on Fridays at Blaze Night Club, and will be playing in a new series called Red Thursdays at The Cove on Winchester Avenue. Besides that, I’m currently working on volume 2 of my mixed CD “Strictly for the Ladies” that was released this past summer. I also have some Blackberry short mixes that are about 15minutes long that you can download straight to your phone.
TEENage: Outside of being a DJ, is there anything else you would do in music?
MW: I have an Associate Degree in Audio Engineering so I would definitely do some producing.
TEENage: We note that music is in fact your passion, but what else do you enjoy doing?
MW: I’m a party junky and I love playing basketball.
TEENage: What advice do you have for other TEENs who aspire to be a DJ?
MW: Work hard, follow your dreams, practice a lot and surround yourself with positive people.
