Beware of flat tyre pranksters
An email is now making the rounds advising motorists to be aware of a prank where air is let out of the tyres of parked vehicles and unsuspecting drivers are robbed after the flat tyre is pointed out by the lurking culprits.
The email said that the prank occurred in one specific upper St Andrew shopping centre and urged motorists not to stop but instead drive to a nearby police station.
According to the email, culprits actually approach the intended victim and draw attention to the flat tyre, ostensibly to offer assistance.
“There are criminals letting the air out of tyres…then knocking on your window to ask if you do not realise that you have a flat tyre,” says the email.
“If this happens to you, do not, repeat do not stop.”
While Auto was, yesterday, unable to check the veracity of the report, vigilance is advised, as it is always better to err on the side of caution.
