Fatalities down 16 per cent, crashes drop 10 per cent
WITH 28 days left in the year the countdown to achieve ‘Under-300’ traffic deaths continues. Fatal crashes have decreased ten per cent and fatalities down 16 per cent when compared to last year.
According to data from the Road Safety Unit in the transport ministry 260 people have been killed in 240 fatal traffic crashes up to November 30.
This compares to 311 deaths from 267 fatal crashes over the same period last year.
Authorities are now optimistic about having a traffic death toll below 300 this year, which would be the first in a decade.
A one-per-day death rate between now and December 31 would place the figure at approximately 290.
