VCB targets limited indoor events in 2011
WITH her success at last year’s IAAF World Indoors in Doha, Veronica Campbell Brown will add a limited indoor schedule to her list of meets for the 2011 season.
Campbell Brown, who recently celebrated her third wedding anniversary with husband Omar with a short trip to the Jamaican north coast, says she will run “a maximum of two competitions” indoors next year.
While she did not say where she would be running, Campbell Brown said she loved competing in the smaller arenas “as I find the small venue and the closeness of the fans quite exciting and an incentive to perform at one’s best”.
She made the comments in her on-line diary on the IAAF website published on Tuesday.
The Central American and Caribbean female, Athlete of the Year returned to indoors competition after a five-year break, and won the IAAF World Indoors 60m title in a personal best 7.00 seconds, her first indoors title.
The multi-global medal winner reported that her early training was also going well, but took a short break to celebrate her wedding anniversary.
“Omar and I did take time out to celebrate our third wedding anniversary. We went to Jamaica spending a few days at the Grand Palladium.
“We had a most wonderful time and were well treated by the entire staff there and that giant lobster we had will take some background work to disappear…”
Campbell Brown also thanked those who voted for her as she made it to the top five in the race for the IAAF Female Athlete of the Year.
“For me it was an honour as there were so many worth ladies who despite their excellent performances did not make the final five,” she said.
