Heath Causewell — naturally aspirated
Heath Causewell is one driver to keep an eye on in circuit racing at Dover Raceway, and he cemented his place on the tarmac by being named the 2010 Improved Production 33 Champion for the first time in his career.
Causewell started racing at Dover three years ago and has been consistent in his races, placing among the top three for a podium finish. He attributes his 2010 success to “Gregory and Don from Machines Gone Wild”, and the performance of his engine to Ian Webb.
Driving a light blue 1997 Mitsubishi Mirage with a 2000cc naturally aspirated Mivec engine, Causewell has proved himself to be a force to reckon with on the circuit. His front wheel drive car has served him well in many races, including the fiercely contested Modified Production 2 class, which was dominated by the drifting maestro Alan Chen.
“It was a great personal achievement and a milestone. I have been racing consecutively for three years and I finally achieved this feat. I feel good because I felt as though I was slowly achieving something each meet. I aim to follow the footsteps of those drivers on top,” Causewell told Auto.
Approaching his 28th birthday in January 2011, Causewell plans to accomplish much more for the upcoming circuit racing series next year.
This young driver is in fact walking in the footsteps of his 50 year old father, Michael, who is a Dover veteran and former vice president of the Jamaica Race Drivers Club (JRDC).
“He still races at Dover,” current JRDC president Hilary Jardine said.
Young Causewell is also an entrepreneur and although he spends most of his free time racing, his day job keeps him busy as a Mechanical Engineer at his auto service centre in Pembroke Pines, Miami, USA, Econocar Auto Services.
For 2011, Causewell is fixing his eyes on the Caribbean Motor Racing Championships and the Modified Production 3 race; David Summerbell Junior is presently the 2010 Champion for both. Causewell believes his skill level is improving and he, along with the other young drivers, are definitely destined for greatness.
“There is great potential among the young drivers. The only thing stopping us from really excelling is financial support because we are destined for great things and we have what it takes. It will take us a while to catch up to the great ones, but we will get there” said Causewell.
