One goal enough for Boys’ Town against W’House
BOYS’ Town clipped Waterhouse 1-0 in round 20 of the Digicel Premier League (DPL) on Sunday to register their first win against the latter at Drewsland.
A late goal by Joel Williams, operating in midfield, created the opportunity for the ‘Red Brigade’ of Collie Smith Drive to register their important win and break the jinx of never winning a Premier League game against Waterhouse at the venue.
Consecutive wins continue to keep Boys’ Town close to the leaders in fourth position on 34 points in the overall standings. Waterhouse, who were suffering their second defeat in their last three games, slipped to third on 35 points from second after being leapfrogged by Portmore United by a point on 36. Leaders Tivoli Gardens hold fast on 37 points after going down 2-3 to Harbour View on the road.
Separate and apart from the narrow win, there was not much to distinguish between the teams as both were guilty of missing several goalscoring chances from good positions. Williams broke that trend when he poked one past the unsighted Richard McCallum following a goal mouth melee on the stroke of full time.
Late substitue Jermaine ‘Tuffy’ Anderson came close to giving Waterhouse a share of the points in time added by hammering a right-footed effort from 35 yards, but goalkeeper Philmore Crumbie who was again brilliant to avert danger.
At the end, Boys’ Town coach Andrew Price was a very happy man. “I am happy. Like I said we were going through a very bad patch recently and for this we’ve done a lot of soul searching… the team is playing with a lot of character; playing with a lot of heart,” he said.
Waterhouse coach Baris Johnson said “it was just unfortunate that we gave up a goal in the last minute”.
