Background: Tyreke Evans has always been a star in the making. He attended the American Christian Academy and by his sophmore year he was being compared to NBA stars like Tracy McGrady.
In his senior year, he averaged 32.1 points per game and was chosen to keep the SLAM Magazine High School Diary, which is a journal traditionally given to the top high school basketball player to document his life before he ventures to college or professional basketball. His high school accolades did not end there, as in 2006 he was one of eight players selected for the documentary Gunning for That #1 Spot, which was a film to highlight to best high school talents in the United States.
Tyreke spent one year at the University of Memphis as a point guard under the guidance of coach John Calipari and was short-listed for the Oscar Robertson Trophy in 2009, where he lost out to Blake Griffin.
He declared himself eligible for the NBA Draft and was chosen as the fourth overall pick by the Sacramento Kings. He was an instant success claiming consecutive Western Conference Rookie of the Month awards. He was also instrumental in helping the Kings to come from a 35-point deficit in the third quarter to defeat the Chicago Bulls 102-98 last year.
He averaged 20.1 points, 5.8 assists and 5.3 rebounds to claim the 2010 NBA Rookie of the Year and joined LeBron James, Michael Jordan and Oscar Robertson as the only players to average 20 points, five assists and five rebounds.
