Floodlights for Catherine Hall …by month-end
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Floodlights for the Montego Bay Sports Complex at Catherine Hall should be in place no later than the end of this month, in time for the start of the CONCACAF Under-17 finals in February, officials have said.
Chairman of the Local Organising Committee and Mayor of Montego Bay, Councillor Charles Sinclair confirmed the deadline for that phase of the work in an interview with the Observer West on Monday.
Four pylons, each with 48 2000-watt bulbs are currently being erected at the complex, which was officially opened last year, more than ten years after construction began.
Late yesterday, organisers including representatives of CONCACAF and the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), toured the facility and said they were generally pleased with the progress of the work despite concerns about delays in the installation of the floodlights.
The semi-final and finals set for February 25 and 27 respectively are to be played under lights at Catherine Hall.
The 12-team tournament will start on Monday February 14 with two games at the Trelawny multi-purpose stadium. Two more games and the official opening ceremony are set for Catherine Hall a day later.
