Saturday Hustle – January 22
The 15th annual Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival to be held at the Trelawny Multi-Purpose Stadium gets underway next week with performances by Air Supply, Natalie Cole and Laura Izibor among others. Saturday Hustle plays a selection of tracks from this year’s headlining acts.
She Will Be Loved – Maroon 5
Grammy-award-winning group Maroon 5, who performed last night, came to prominence with their first album Songs About Jane, on which this track was arguably the most popular.
Make It Like It Was – Regina Belle
The soulful veteran songstress has long made her impact on the world of music, but it is still this track that comes most readily to mind when we think of her.
All Out Of Love – Air Supply
Always welcomed heartily by the Jamaican crowd, the multiple-award-winning duo will take the stage for tonight’s finale, performing this, as well as other selections from their slew of hits.
Shy Guy – Diana King
Who can forget Shy Guy? What with its combination of easy reggae beats and Diana’s powerful vocals, it is hardly surprising that this single instantly catapulted her to international stardom.
Miss You Like Crazy – Natalie Cole
The daughter of R&B legend Nat King Cole is a respected artist in her own right and on this paean to an absent lover, Natalie nails the raw emotion of loving one who’s a great distance away.
Contagious – Ronald Isley
Known to a younger generation as “Mr. Big” through his collaborations and appearances in R. Kelly’s music videos, Ronald Isley first found fame in the biz with his siblings, the Isley Brothers. He ventured into a solo career in the last decade and this song, a duet with Kelly, found much favour with soul-loving fans.
From My Heart To Yours – Laura Izibor
Nominated for Best New Artist at last year’s Grammy Awards, Laura may not have won the coveted golden gramophone, but she’s made an impression on listeners and music critics alike, and this track from her debut album Let the Truth Be Told is a beautiful valentine to love.
