Gran Bahia Principe Resort staff on strike
RUNAWAY BAY, St Ann – Management staff at the Gran Bahia Principe Resort in St Ann are now locked in a meeting with union representatives to iron out a wage dispute which has resulted in a strike by more than 100 workers.
The workers walked off the job this morning in protest against the hotel management failure to increase their salary and gratuity payment.
The protesters, who have converged at the service entrance to the hotel with placards include staff from the housekeeping, food and beverage and maintenance departments.
The workers say that although the resort added about 150 rooms to its numbers last November, they have not received any increases in their salary or gratuity payment.
The workers who went on strike about 7:30 this morning, say since the rooms were added they have been working for longer hours without pay.
The workers say they will not return to work until the matter is resolved.
Departments affected by the strike are now being manned by managers and other workers.
