Badminton Club League serves off
THE Badminton Club League, which has been absent from the local calendar for some time, resumed last Saturday afternoon with an opening ceremony at the Constant Spring Golf Club.
In attendance was a past president of the Jamaica Badminton Association, Robert Richards, who addressed the gathering, giving a brief summary of the history of the club league and its importance in the development of the sport. He also lauded the league organisers for restarting this long-standing competition.
Also present at the opening was current president Vishu Tolan who delivered the first serve of the tournament and thus got the competition underway.
The featured tie of the evening which followed the opening, saw newly formed club SWAT up against the YM Challengers. The competition was neck and neck between the two, with YM drawing ‘first blood’ before SWAT equalised then moved ahead 2-1. YM then won the second men’s doubles to draw level at 2-2.
The fifth and deciding match, a mixed doubles, was a hard-fought three-setter which was won by YM Challengers to give them the tie with a 3-2 scoreline.
The next match in the competition is scheduled for today at 6:30 pm between Shortwood Giants and SWAT at the YMCA.
