Appleton face Tafari in St Elizabeth Major League
APPLETON Estate Football Club and Tafari Lions FC will highlight one of six games in the penultimate round of the St Elizabeth FA Wray and Nephew Major league on the weekend.
Mid-season champions Black River (25), who have gained just one point following a 1-1 draw with Mountainside, and who lost their two other second-round games, will be seeking to grab three more valuable points in order to book their place in the semi-final when they play away to Young Brazil in Santa Cruz, while Braes River host seventh-placed Burnt Ground and sixth-placed Mountainside (21), who beat Young Brazil 1-0 last Sunday, entertain New Holland today.
Appleton, who jumped from fourth to second place following their 3-0 beating of Treasure Beach last Saturday, will host the Lacovia-based Lions at Appleton in Siloah tomorrow. Both teams are on 27 points with identical wins and losses after 14 games. They have won eight games, drawn three, lost three with 13 goals against, but Appleton, coached by Andrew Edwards, Jamaica’s Under-20 assistant coach, scored one goal more than the Lions, 27 to 26.
In other games, league leaders Super Action, who clipped Tafari 1-0 in a top-of-the-table clash a week ago, to move up to 34 points, should have an easy task when they visit Vineyard (21) and Treasure Beach host Parottee in the other games.
