Rain keeps Guyana, Lions indoors all day
GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) — Torrential early morning rain yesterday forced the abandonment of the opening day’s play of the fifth round match of the Regional First-Class Championship between Guyana and England Lions.
The persistent rain resulted in a water-logged outfield at the National Stadium at Providence, keeping players and officials indoors.
For the first time in its five-year-history, the ground was under water during the opening session of the match and the covers were never taken off.
The water quickly disappeared once the rain slowed to a drizzle after lunch but officials said a prompt start today could be in doubt, especially if rain continued overnight.
Play is scheduled to commence at 9:30 am and end at 5:30 pm on each remaining day of the contest to make up for the time lost yesterday.
