Young Girlz in training camp
National women’s coach Vin Blaine has called a training camp of Under-15 and Under-17 girls from Thursday through to tomorrow.
The purpose of this training camp is two fold. The players that are within the 15 and under age group are being viewed as part of a development programme. The aim is to have these players in a continuous training programme for the next two years to form the nucleus of the next U-17 team.
As a part of their development, they will undergo technical and tactical training, psychological and communication skills training, and a heavy emphasis on improving their overall attitude towards training and playing at the highest level.
The U-17 girls will be preparing for World Cup Qualifiers which are scheduled to start in August of this year. Unlike in previous years the preparation is beginning early.
According to Blaine, the process of identifying talent will be continuous. “We are moving to identify more talented girls within the age group 12 -14 to add to the pool that are called to this camp.”
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), through its president, has indicated that it will be putting its full weight behind the women’s programme for 2011. However, Captain Horace Burrell is calling for corporate Jamaica to support the female players through sponsorship to ‘allow them to fulfil their potential’.
The squad is Shanice McDonald (Donald Quarrie High), Tamara-Kay Bell (Excelsior), Tiffany Robinson (Excelsior), Shaquilla Peterson (Excelsior), Shantel Bailey (Charlie Smith High), Nicole Broderick (Excelsior), Ashley Ramsay (Excelsior), Raheema Bennett (Manchester), Tamara O’Sullivan (Charlie Smith High), Chris-Ann Chambers (Wolmer’s), Remona Hyde (Lennox High), Shashonna Bennett (Oracabessa), Zinadene Mattison (Highgate Primary & Jr High), Shemone Carter (Iona High), Imani Richards (Papine High), Shanda Guljar (Black River), Kaleisha Cooper (Edith Dalton James High), Eula Webber (Fair Prospect), Kemesha Roberts (Titchfield High) in the Under-17 category, and Mureka Howard (Lennon High), Shanay Ricketts (Lennon High), Rhonda Rhooms (Lennon High), Shaday Reid (Christiana High), Dania-Rose Johns (Glenmuir High), Melissa Hamilton (Fair Prospect High) in the Under-17 category.
