Twiggi and De’jah live up to expectations at Christopher’s
TWO female acts, Twiggi and De’jah, lived up to expectations as they performed at Christopher’s in New Kingston on Thursday night.
Plotting her return to the musical landscape, Twiggi, the lovers rock singer of over a decade ago, measured up in no uncertain manner.
She laid the foundation to her pleasing performance with an interesting twist on Marcia Griffiths’ Stepping Out of Babylon.
Now living in Florida, Twiggi, in an effort to reconnect with her local fans, went into a retro mode with a plethora of tunes from her Penthouse Recording days.
She worked the stage vigorously and connected with the onlookers with Where Did the Love Go, Do Me Baby, Want It, at which point she segued into a little deejaying as she reminded the audience of how she used to flex back in the day when she and Buju Banton would collaborate.
It was with The Greatest Love that she outdid herself. Having demonstrated that she still possessed the power to thrill an audience, at the end of that enthralling rendition, she said: “You see since we are on this positive note right now, I am going to introduce you to the new Twiggi. This is the Twiggi who has been promoting a message in the music. So all these songs that I am going to sing right now is from my new album, The Sunshine Through.”
From that set, she also did Reaching Out to You, More Love, and I Look to You.
No less pleasing was De’jah. With the right attitude, confidence and a commanding voice, she brought out the shy guys to share the spolight with her during her execution of that Diana King’s monster hit. Her powerful voice paired with the high energy of the backing band, Pon Fyah, featuring Ozou’ne (bandleader) on keyboard, Paul ‘Smiley’ Madden on bass and Cliff ‘Bond’ Ellis on drums.
