Boys’ Town seek to close gap
DIGICEL Premier League (DPL) title favourites Tivoli Gardens take on Portmore United looking to extend their lead, while Boys’ Town host Village United hoping to close a five-point gap in their battle for supremacy.
In the other games: Waterhouse play dethroned champions Harbour View; Arnett Gardens travel to Humble Lion; Benfica face Sporting Central and St Georges tackle Reno.
Leaders Tivoli, out front on 64 points — five more than second-placed Boys’ Town, and with only four rounds remaining — know a win would go a far way in securing another title.
But they will find a Portmore United team giving nothing away and will have to fight hard to secure another win and move closer to the title.
The league leaders are yet to defeat Portmore in three outings this season. Portmore won once while the others were drawn 1-1.
Meanwhile, title-chasing Boys’ Town, on 59, seemingly have an easier task in garnering three points against sixthplaced Village United, on 43 points, who should be lacking motivation.
The Red Brigade have won two of their three meetings and should feel confident of notching another.
In the intriguing relegation battle, 11th-placed Humble Lion on 37 points will be looking to climb out of that zone with a win over ninth-placed Arnett Gardens on 41.
The Clarendon-based Humble Lion defeated Reno last week and climbed from the cellar, and the Lenworth Hydecoached outfit cannot afford to slip up.
With only six points separating the seventh and 12th-placed teams, any win will be important. Arnett are four points above three teams in the relegation zone and having lost last week, will be looking to rebound and basically secure their position in the DPL.
Cellar team Benfica, on 37 points, will have a hard time against seventh-placed Sporting Central, on 43.
Sporting, who ripped Arnett apart 4-0 last week, are basically safe from relegation and this might just play into the hands of Benfica.
But the St Ann-based side will have to come and earn those points as Sporting seek to put their relegation fears to bed with a win.
Tenth-placed St Georges, on 39 points, face eighth-placed Reno, on 41, in another intriguing relegation dogfight at Lynch Park.
