Clovis and the ‘patwa docta’
Dear Editor,
I had a really great laugh at the way Professor Carolyn “patwa docta” Cooper slaughtered your cartoonist Clovis in her recent column in the lesser newspaper.
For those just joining, Clovis caricatured Professor Cooper offering her neck to a vampiric Vybz Kartel whom Cooper had invited to guest-lecture at the University of the West Indies.
The “patwa docta”, displaying an unbelievable lack of a sense of humour, accused Clovis of all manner of evil: he was sexist, anti-feminist, anti-Portia; politically partisan; irreverent and all the things for which Jamaicans are cursed.
If Professor Cooper could only see how developed-world cartoonists caricature their public figures, she would realise that Clovis is soft in comparison, even though his drawings are often superior to theirs.
My advice to Professor Cooper is to lighten up… and I don’t mean it in the sense of bleaching her skin.
