Tafari Lions, Super Action to contest St Elizabeth final
SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — TWO-TIME champions Tafari Lions and Super Action FC will contest the 2010-2011 final of the St Elizabeth FA Wray and Nephew major league.
Tafari Lions, despite going down 1-0 to Appleton Estate at STETHS on Sunday, advanced 2-1 on aggregate. Kimar Smith was on target for the Errol White-coached team on April 2, scoring in the 55th and 79th minute to give the Lions a 2-0 cushion in the first leg semi-final.
Keino Smith got the consolation for Appleton on Sunday with a beautiful header in the 61st minute.
In the other semi-final, Super Action avenged their 0-1 loss in the Mid-Season final when they came back from a 1-0 deficit to beat Black River 2-0 on Monday at the Appleton Estate and advance 2-1 an aggregate.
Super Action, dominant in the league with 38 points 47 goals, scored in the seventh minute, courtesy of well-placed header by Derval Thompson from a right-sided cross, supplied by STETHS and National under-20 player Denmark Gillings.
The winner came in the 28th minute of extra time. Andrae Mitchell collected the ball on the left, beat a defender and kicked a grounder past Everaldo Walters in goal, sending the Super Action fans jumping for joy.
The first leg of the final will be played this Sunday at STETHS starting at 3: 30 pm.
