‘SATAN’, who police believe was one of the main hitmen for Spanish Town’s notorious Klansman Gang, was cut down by the police in an alleged shoot-out in Kent Village, near Bog Walk in St Catherine yesterday.

Satan, registered as Amal Roman, 24, and an unidentified crony were cut down by the police in the alleged gunfight in the small St Catherine village that sits close to the Rio Cobre. Satan, who was regularly featured as a person of interest in police bulletins for crimes in the run-down old Jamaican capital, Spanish Town, was believed to be responsible for several murders committed in the name of the Klansman gang — the criminal outfit which supports the Opposition People’s National Party. The gang is the biggest and most organised now operating in Jamaica, according to the police.

Just recently the police put a $250,000 bounty on the head of ‘Satan’ and another man identified as Navardo Hodges, alias ‘Dee Jay’. Police said an AK-47 assault rifle, a 9-mm pistol and a quality of ammunition were seized by lawmen following the shooting in Kent Village.

Yesterday, the police vowed that they would not relent until they have dismantled gangs that have been wreaking havoc in sections of Spanish Town. Another dangerous gang, known as One Order — aligned to the governing Jamaica Labour Party — also operates in sections of Spanish Town.

The shooting incident in which ‘Satan’ was taken from Earth is being investigated by the police’s Bureau of Special Investigations, while the Independent Commission of Investigations — the new body set up to probe police shootings — has been informed.

At the same time, the constabulary urged its members who operate in St Catherine and surrounding areas to be on high alert and raised the threat level against the force to “extreme” in light of the fatal shooting of Satan, one of the ‘commanders’ for the Klansman gang.

“Extreme means that violent attacks against members of the security forces are imminent,” said the constabulary.

The Police High Command said members should take steps necessary to protect themselves, their families and government properties.

On Saturday and earlier this week the police came under heavy gunfire in Spanish Town, in what is believed to be organised attacks by the Klansman gang.

Last month armed men, said to be aligned to the Spanish Town-based gang, fired on the Spanish Town Police Station and later threatened to hurt staff and patients at the Spanish Town Hospital.

“…Since then police have increased their presence in the area and will continue to monitor the area until things are fully under control,” said head of the St Catherine North Police Division Anthony Castel.
