Portmore gets career development centre
PORTMORE residents in need of career advice now have a place to go for it — their very own career development centre, opened recently at the local HEART Academy.
“The career development centre is here to guide you towards income streams that match interests. The world is your oyster and HEART is here to help you reap that benefit,” said Dr Carolyn Hayle, executive director of the HEART Trust National Training Agency, at the ceremony to hand over the centre earlier this month.
She added her encouragement for youths in particular to access the range of services on offer at the new facility when making career decisions.
Mayor of Portmore Keith Hinds has applauded the opening of the centre, noting how critical it is for residents to make good career decisions in the interest of the growth of the municipality.
“Portmore is not a second-class cousin to any other city. My aim and desire is to see a community that is well ordered and prosperous. I will be supporting the Portmore HEART Academy because I understand the importance of education,” he said.
The Portmore Career Development Centre will provide career guidance, counselling and placement to persons with various levels of training — from those entering the world of work to those already in the labour force, but who may be interested in making a career change.
