Granville FC closer to mid-season final
BOUNTY HALL, Trelawny — Granville FC took a step towards qualifying for the mid-season final of the Trelawny Football Association’s National Rums of Jamaica Major League after beating qualifiers Kinloss FC 2-0 in a rescheduled first-round game at the Carter Playfield on Saturday.
Granville’s win took them to 20 points as both teams completed their first-round schedule, one point behind Kinloss, but they must wait as Holland United are also in contention.
Both of Granville’s goals came in the second half from Patrick Pinnock in the 48th minute and Larone Clarke in the 54th as Kinloss lost for the second time this season.
Also on Saturday, last-placed Classic United scored twice in a two-minute period midway the second half to come from a 2-0 deficit and earn a draw against Clarks Town at Hyde Playfield.
Nobel White in the 10th minute and Lupton Haughton in the 51st had given Clarks Town the lead, but Dave Speid scored in the 67th minute and Jason Blake in the 69th for winless Classic to earn their fifth draw and move to five points.
The other game of the day, Duanvale and Jackson Town ended 1-1, with Hugh-George Watson giving Jackson Town the lead in the 30th minute before Dinval Wallace equalised in the 77th minute.
