Destra for Beach J’Ouvert this Saturday
AN expression of freedom, fun and a truly festive experience is said to be awaiting patrons at the annual staging of Bacchanal Jamaica’s Beach J’Ouvert set to take place this Saturday on James Bond Beach, Oracabessa, St Mary.
The entertainment line-up features Trinidadian soca star Destra Garcia and her band supported by a dynamic line up of DJs in Kurt Riley, Sparkles Productions Disco, Private Ryan from Trinidad and Smoke from Renaissance with MC Bambino.
Embraced as part of the Bacchanal Jamaica’s family, Destra Garcia will return to her rightful place on Beach J’Ouvert’s stage.
Destra is the sole female lead singer and head of her band. Her strong female personality commands the stage and captivates her audience. A large part of the anticipation is also Destra’s choice of daring stage outfits and equally tantalising back-up dancers.
Destra’s brand of soca is extremely popular in Jamaica, her 2009 Bacchanal is dubbed the anthem for carnival in Jamaica — Bacchanal Jamaica Carnival With her collection of hits like It’s Carnival, Celebrate, Bonnie and Clyde and Max it Up and 2011’s Proper and Cool it Down this diva is expected to give an energetic and crowd-pleasing set.
Beach J’Ouvert is title-sponsored by Smirnoff in association with Appleton, Acropolis, Digicel, Sparkles Productions and Matterhorn.
The organisers are encouraging patrons to be creative as they observe the J’Ouvert dress code. Shorts, straw hats and Hawaiian leis will be the order of the day.

Beach J’ouvert signals the official start of the week of Bacchanal Carnival with non-stop partying all week into Bacchanal J’Ouvert on April 29 and the culminating Road March on May 1.
