Message from the Honourable Olivia Babsy Grange, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture
THE Carnival of Speed motor racing event at Dover is always an exciting affair. But one gets a sense that it will be even more thrilling this year. Certainly we are anticipating the renewal of the great rivalry between our nation’s top drivers.
We expect to see that fine combination of driving skill, technical precision and entertainment to which we have become accustomed. And this year we enthusiastically await the introduction of new fast cars into our Easter racing tradition. As the Minister with responsibility for sports — and as a fan — I am excited by developments in motor racing. I have seen how drivers, teams and organisers have upgraded their vehicles and technical capacity. These are positive moves that will ensure the continued development of motor racing in Jamaica as we look to build on our successes in overseas competitions. I commend the Jamaica Race Drivers’ Club for what I know will be another well-organised sports event. I extend my best wishes to all the competitors, their teams and the fans. I hope we will all have a safe and thoroughly enjoyable day of racing at Dover and that we will all have a Happy Easter.
