Flexxing with – Alaine
ALAINE Laughton has been on the entertainment scene for almost all her life. Although her interests and projects have changed from pianist to actor, and now singer, producer, she intends to stay in the music industry and explore all aspects of it.
Starting off as a member of the Jamaica Folk Singers, a young Alaine played the piano and performed with her mother, who, she explains, has always encouraged her to sing. With encouragement flowing, it was no surprise when her first hit No Ordinary Love became popular.
Since then, she has been blessed to have had the opportunity to work with many producers who have helped her to release some of her biggest hits. Recently though, she became interested in producing her music on her own label, 1Thirty1 Records, which, she explains, will produce only positive music. The first project on the label was You Are Me, which was inspired by the incursion in Tivoli Gardens last year.
Alaine continues to be influenced by the events around her, as her most recent release Tahrir Square, is in response to the recent situations in Egypt.
She told TEENage, “Tahrir means liberation, and the song represents liberation from many obstacles in life.”
Other hot releases out now by the songbird are When Mama Prays by Romeish Records, and Good Good, which is produced by King Yard and features Shaggy.
Alaine stated that this year she will write more hits as she explores different aspects of the music industry a bit more. She went on to explain with a smile that she isn’t trying to target a specific fan base, instead she feels good about the fact that her music can reach everyone.
She describes her journey as an artiste as one that has made her stronger and anticipates bigger performances and great things from 2011. Alaine looks forward to her visit to Guyana for a performance this week.
