Sabbath keepers contradict Bible
Dear Editor,
I wish to touch on the current Sunday/Sabbath discussion.
(1) Sabbath could not have been given at creation because the Bible does not say so and Exodus 34:27-28 tells us that Moses wrote the words of the Covenant – the Ten Commandments. Moses taught the second generation of Israelites when they were renewing the Covenant in preparation to enter the Promised Land saying, “You were slaves in Egypt and Lord, your God, miraculously brought out from there, that is why the Lord, your God, commanded you to observe the Sabbath Day.” Deuteronomy 5:15. Moses was not at creation, he was at Sinai.
This is confirmed by Nehemiah 9:13-14 which says, “You came down on Mount Sinai, Your holy Sabbath you made known to us through the hand of Moses your servant.”
(2) The Bible says Sabbath-keeping was confined to the Israelites and came to an end.
Exodus 31:16-17: “So shall the Israelites observe the Sabbath throughout their generation as a perpetual covenant.” It was confined to the Israelites.
Jeremiah 31:31 prophesied: “The days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new Covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah.” Jesus fulfilled that prophecy in Luke 22:20 when He inaugurated the New Covenant saying, “This cup is the New Covenant in my blood which will be shed for you.” Hebrews 8:13 tells us, “When He speaks of the New Covenant He declared the first one in Exodus 31 obsolete.”
Again Hosea 2:13 prophesied: “I will bring an end to all her (Israel) feasts, her new moons, her Sabbaths, and all her solemnities.” Paul proclaimed the fulfilment of this prophecy in Colossians 2:16 when he told the Christians, ” Let no one pass judgement on you as regards Sabbaths or New Moon or Festivals, those were shadows of things to come. Christ is the reality.”
The arguments of Sabbath keepers contradict the Bible and are therefore incorrect.
