Lotto Classic to kick off lavish SVL anniversary

SUPREME Ventures Limited (SVL) yesterday announced a sponsorship package of $1,850,000 to coincide with its 10th Anniversary celebration and 10 years of partnering with Caymanas Track Limited (CTL).

Through its flagship product, Lotto, SVL will stage the annual Lotto Classic for the Governor’s Cup (Gr 1) event at Caymanas Park on Saturday, May 21.

The Lotto Race Day package will spread across the 10 races, with the bulk of $750,000 going to the purse of the 71st Lotto Classic event for the Governor’s Cup (Gr 1) — a futurity race for native-bred three-year-olds over 2000 metres, which has been increased to $3,055,000.

Lotto Race Day is the first of four racing days on the calendar sponsored by SVL. The other racedays will continue on October 15 when native-bred two-year-olds’ ultra-rich Triple Series begin with the Cash Pot ‘Only One For Me’ Trophy (Gr 111); the Pick3 Challenge Trophy (Gr 111), and end on December 26 with the SVL Jamaica Two-Year-old Stakes (Gr 1).

Six of the 10 races on the card that will carry the Lotto name will receive the bulk of the sponsorship, with the remaining four receiving an additional $100,000 to their individual purses.

Senior corporate communications officer Carlene Edwards made the announcement at a press briefing at the company’s Portmore Acropolis Gaming and Entertainment Centre, with an overview of the races given by CTL’s Denzil Miller Jnr.

Edwards said it was only fitting for the company to announce its 10th year of unbroken partnership with CTL.

She said their ontinued partnership with CTL underscores its commitment and support for the development of the gaming industry, which pours millions of dollars into the consolidated Fund through Lottery and Gaming taxes and the CHASE Fund.

“We have also strengthened our relationship with CTL through our collaboration, whereby 40 of CTL’s off-track (OTB Parlours are currently accepting bets on our weekly sports betting events,” she said.

SVL will also use the opportunity to fete its over 970 lottery agents on the in-field while providing special promotional terminals in the racing areas at the Racing Complex for punters to play their favourite lottery games.

Meanwhile, the Lotto Classic, which is the final major prep for the stamina-testing Jamaica Derby, looks to be very competitive, according to Miller.

Possible starters include Uncle Ken, Justin On Fire, Jet Setter, Luscious, Sweat Trial, Hermoso Amigo, Technomoto, Sir South, Cold Ground, Maas Laurie, Red Flag and Pasadoble.

The other principal race on the card is the 15th Lotto Sprint Trophy (Gr 1). This a handicap race for native-bred and imported three-year-olds upward over 1100m for a purse of $1,470,000 of which sponsor’s contribution is $200,000.

It is the first major sprint race of the season and last year’s champion sprinter Saint Cecelia is expected to do battle with impressive American importees Ronron, Dance So Sweet, Double The Honey and Triple Account.

The other Lotto races are the Lotto Rush Trophy — a Restricted Allowance 11 race for native-bred three-year-olds over 1300 metres for a purse of $865,000 with a $150,000 addition from the sponsor; the Lotto Dash — a maiden special weight race for native-bred two-year-olds over 600 metres for a purse of 865,000 with $150,000 from the sponsors; the Lotto Challenge trophy — a Restricted Allowance 111 race four-year-olds upward over 1500 metres for a purse of $616,600 with $100,000 from the sponsors and the Lotto Championship Trophy — a race for $180,000 claimers for three-year-olds upward over 1200 metres for a purse of $538,000 with $100,000 from the sponsors.
