Rodman pedals to victory in East Bikeathon
ROSE HALL, St James — Jamaica’s national representative Marloe Rodman’s outstanding 2011 season continued yesterday when he easily won the professional division of the 17th staging of the Rotary Club of Montego Bay East Bikeathon held in Rose Hall.
Rodman, who is based in Trinidad, won the event for the second time in four years after missing the last two stagings on a new course.
After leading a three-man break away after a nasty crash on the second of six laps, Rodman, 23, easily sprinted away from Cornwall Cycling Club teammate Lainel Stewart and Thailer Hill of Portland Cycling Club to take the top prize.
Rodman, who represented Jamaica at the Commonwealth Games in India last year, described the new course as a “lovely circuit”, but said the race was hard “I had to put in the work to get the results”
The new course that was used for the first time this year, saw the cyclists make six circuits of the course from Whitter Village to SeaCastles and back.
This course replaced the loop from Whitter Village to Duncans in Trelawny and back that was used last year.
Rodman has had a good year so far after becoming the first Caribbean rider to win the Beacon Insurance company sponsored Trinidad and Tobago Cycling Festival 14-lap event around the Queen’s Park Savannah in late April.
