Fogo, Strikers in high-scoring draw
FLANKER, St James — Fogo United’s march to the St James FA/Claro Senior League title was slowed when they played out a high-scoring 3-3 draw with second-placed Melbourne Strikers at Flanker on Monday.
Fogo took the lead, but fell behind 1-2 and 2-3 before a late goal salvaged a point for them.
They are still in the lead with 37 points, but just four more than the fast-closing Melbourne, while Boys Club and Little Miami draw 1-1 at the UDC field to stay tied on 32 points for third place.
At Flanker, Corey Myles gave the home team the lead after 25 minutes from the penalty spot, but Trevan Allen scored the first of his double in the 30th minute to tie up the scores, while Otis Hudson gave Melbourne the lead in the 38th from a free-kick.
The veteran Alme McFarlane drew Fogo level just before the half-time break, but Allen hit back again in the 58th to give Melbourne the lead, 3-2.
O’Brian Streete popped up in the 87th to grab a point for Fogo, however.
At the UDC field, Odeano Spencer scored from a corner kick in the 36th minute, but Leroy Christie equalised in the 49th.
Mt Villa moved one place up in the standings to eighth place after beating Barrett Town 3-0 at Spot Valley as the losers dropped into the relation zone, on goal difference behind North Gully Ambassadors.
The league continues tomorrow with three games: Violet Kickers against Salt Spring United at Mt Salem, Granville City faces North Gully Ambassadors at Sam Sharpe Teachers’ College and Salt Spring Roses against Revelation at Westgreen.
