Bartlett honours veteran teacher
ROSE HALL, St James — VETERAN educator Lenora Morris has been honoured for 50 years of “outstanding service” by East Central St James Member of Parliament Edmund Bartlett during his recent Education Council annual teachers award function.
The 81-year-old former principal of the Happy Venture Basic School in Lilliput, St James who retired from the classroom just over a year ago, was one of the 102 teachers awarded during the ceremony held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Montego Bay.
Bartlett, who is also the tourism minister, announced that the East Central St James Educational Council budget, which now stands at $5 million, will be increased by 100 per cent next year, to mark its 10th anniversary.
Bartlett said scholarships for teachers and students in the constituency will be increased next year from $2.5 million to $5 million.
Another $5 million will be spent on school uniform support for parents and the purchasing of text books among other things, he said.
Additionally, Bartlett promised that next year the awards function, which will be held at the Montego Bay Convention Centre, will embrace members of the ancillary and administrative staff of the 42 schools in his constituency.
