Bridgmohan stays top with double
LEXINGTON, Kentucky (CMC) — Shaun Bridgmohan remained at the top of the jockeys’ chart with a double on Saturday’s 11-race card at the world-famous Churchill Downs.
The Jamaican now has 15 wins for the season — three more than his nearest rival Corey Lanerie.
Bridgmohan won the US$49,000 third race going 1,600 metres on the dirt aboard the 3-10 favourite Le Mans by five lengths.
Le Mans, a three-year-old, dark bay colt, was last away, but Bridgmohan positioned him to force the pace before they took over approaching the stretch, and drew away under steady urging for a time of one minute, 35.73 seconds.
Bridgmohan then won the US$23,000 eighth race over 1,400m astride the 5-2 chance Majestic Toy by a nose, ahead of Stormy Story, under Lanerie.
Majesic Toy, a three-year-old, bay filly, stalked the pace off of the inside, before Bridgmohan advanced her three wide, took over entering the stretch, kicked clear, and was all out to clock one minute, 24.10 secs.
