Flow NBL-west opener rescheduled for today
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The organisers of the Flow NBL-west will make another attempt at the first game of the best-of-three finals between Granville Jaguars and Catherine Hall All-Stars this evening after Wednesday’s game was washed out.
Western Jamaica has been experiencing afternoon showers most of this week and the game was called off an hour before the 7:00 pm scheduled start due to heavy rains.
Catherine Hall have won the last two games between the clubs, but Granville will start favourites to win their first title, despite the fact that both will advance to the National Play-offs.
Jaguars won their first game in the second round, 83-67, but Catherine Hall won the third-round encounter and then the replayed first-round game, 71-65.
Granville’s offence will be led by the pair of Dave Black and Huwayne Blake, while Catherine Hall are expected to respond with Goyan Malcolm, who sat out most of Saturday’s game, and centre Jermaine Rerrie.
The big match-up, however, is expected to come in the low post where Rerrie, who leads the league in rebounds and blocked shots, will go up against Granville’s Leroy Lawrence.
The Jaguars offene could prove to be the difference, however, and they showed a little of what they are capable of on Saturday with a 65-39 run against Avalanche over the finals 23 minutes of the game after Avalanche had pulled to within one point at 30-31.
Catherine Hall, losers in the last final against Hoopers, have constantly defied the odds, however, and should not be counted out in the contest.
