Camar bringing a new ‘Flava’ to dancehall
AFTER taking a hiatus from the Jamaican music scene due to obligations with an international record label, Camar, also known as Flavaunit, has re-emerged with a new single titled God Bless with accompanying video.
Done on the Jink Rhythm, the song is produced by Justus Harris of JA Productions. The video is directed by Simon ‘Sno’ Thompson and Camar Doyles and edited by Steven ‘Streetz’ Bernard.
The Jink Rhythm also features Sizzla, Uncle Mucks, Supa Hype, Munga, and newcomers Keida and Blak Diamon.
“This song represents the positive transformation that has taken place in my life and career,” a news release from Camar’s publicist quotes him as saying. “It is also my way of showing appreciation to all those who have helped me thus far and the blessings that have resulted.”
After being signed to South Florida-based Slip N Slide Records in 2008, he joined the ranks of label mates Trina, Plies, Rick Ross and Jagged Edge for which he was the opening act, along with 112 on their European tour.
Although not being in the Jamaican music spotlight for a while, Camar says he has not lost touch with his musical roots and is as busy as ever since his return to Jamaica.
“I have been doing a lot of production, writing and vocal arrangements, working with various established and upcoming artistes such as Beenie Man, Timberlee, Mr G, Sizzla and Jah Cure, to name a few,” he said.
“I recently did a music video with Beenie Man for a song called Jamaican Party/Dancehall Nuh Dead Yet. It premiered on Entertainment Report (ER) on Television Jamaica and has been getting positive reception,” Camar added.
He also spoke about working closely on a new song and video called Take It Off with long-time friend and fellow Jamaican artiste Kid Kurrup, who has also made a name change to Uncle Mucks.
“Me and Kurrup, aka Uncle Mucks, coming from Girls Request The Flava on the Ice-Breaker Rhythm, so we have that musical chemistry from long time, so you can look out for that real soon,” he said.
Having been in the music industry for a number of years, Camar has recorded and produced hits such as Whine And Twist, It’s You, Your Body Is Calling, She Love Me Love, She Loves The Flava, and the YouTube sensation Pole Technician. He has also done collaborations and produced songs with other local entertainers, including Mykal Rose, Shabba Ranks, Kiprich, Supa Hype, Wayne Marshall, Elephant Man, Patexx, Chino, Vybz Kartel, Sean Paul, ZJ Liquid, Lady Saw, Lisa Hyper, Ishawna, Keida, and most recently Richie Loops.
In a recent interview on CVM TV’s entertainment show The Hit List, Camar said, “I love music and whatever project I’m involved in I give my best effort, I never settle for mediocrity.”
With every track that he lays he is motivated by his own musical maxim, “The greatness of music is not to find what is common but what is unique.” And it is with this passion for uniqueness that he developed his own genre of music known as Yardsoul, which he defines as “poignant vocals almost in an R&B-influenced technique over rich Caribbean Dancehall beats.”
Not one to be caught sleeping at the wheel, Camar is a driven individual and is always on the hunt for the next hit, inside the booth or at the mixing board.
A graduate of the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, he is prolific not only as a singer/songwriter but also as a producer on the Jam2 Records label along with his business partner Jammy ‘Jam2’ James.
He regularly uses his Twitter, Facebook and MySpace pages to create a buzz around his upcoming projects or touch base with his fans. He sees social media as “a viable option for artistes who want to reach out to their fans in a real way”. He has honed his talents over the years to become a multifaceted musician in every sense of the word. Camar’s future looks bright and he promises to continue “making music that people, especially the ladies, love and can dance to.”
