Bolton offer ‘Bibi’ new contract
Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle has offered long-serving midfielder Ricardo Gardner a new deal at the Reebok Stadium, it has been reported on British-based websites.
The Jamaican joined the Trotters from Harbour View in July 1998 and has racked up over 400 appearances in all competitions for the North West outfit.
However, Gardner, who is out of contract in the summer, has struggled with injury this season and spent a spell on loan with Preston before returning to feature in five matches in the closing weeks of the season.
Coyle confirmed that fresh terms had been put to the 32-year-old and the club were now awaiting his response.
The Bolton boss said: “We’ve put an offer to Ricardo and we’ll see what happens. He had a difficult season with injury but he came back and showed he wanted to be part of what we’re doing.
“It’s up to him. If he wants to sign, brilliant. If not, we’ll move on,” Coyle was reported as saying.
The Bolton boss had earlier stated that he would not get sentimental when he puts the new offer to the left-sided player.
“He has been an outstanding player for the club. I like to think I am loyal to my players and I want to make sure I give them the opportunity.I told him I would give him game time to try and earn a contract,” Coyle’s comment added.
The former Reggae Boyz captain, who has more than 100 appearances for the national team, is yet to accept the new deal and is still in negotiations with the Premier League outfit.
