JEAA 2011 nominees: Part II
Career & Education shares with you this week information on shortlisted nominees for another four of the 12 award categories for the Jamaica Environmental Action Awards. Nominations for the awards opened March 22 — celebrated globally as World Water Day — and closed on May 5.
SEVEN educators have been shortlisted for the Champion Environment Teacher award category of the Jamaica Environmental Action Awards (JEAA).
They include: Pansy Murphy of Port Morant Primary & Junior High in St Thomas; Yvonne Hill of Sandy Bay Primary & Junior High in Hanover; Jermaine Buckley, also of Port Morant Primary & Junior High in St Thomas; and Nadia Guy of St Jago Cathedral Prep in St Catherine.
Terika Grant of Central Branch Infant in Kingston; Desmond Campbell of Moneague College in St Ann; and Ann-Maria Cassie of New Day Primary & Junior High in Kingston have also been shortlisted for the award.
The National Family Planning Board and Westwood High School in Trelawny are being considered for the Energy Conservation Award. This award was created to recognise a group or individual who has taken action to conserve energy through reducing usage, promoting renewable energy use and/or research and increases in energy efficiency.
Ecowells Limited out of Kingston is among those shortlisted for the Waste Management Award, which is intended to reward a group or individual who has taken action to improve waste management through recycling, waste reduction, composting, and/or eliminating burning.
The other shortlisted candidates for that award are Eco Pots/Capoeira Jamaica; Hear the Children’s Cry; Protect the Environment Trust; Ava-Gail Lindsey out of St Mary and Moneague College in St Ann.
Meanwhile, the award for Excellence in Marine Conservation will be given to a group or individual who has undertaken a marine conservation project focusing on protection of a marine ecosystem and/or species, and/or raising awareness on marine conservation issues through education and/or advocacy. The nominees for that award are Nakhle Hado and the Port Royal Marine Lab.
