Widow of St Mary murder/suicide cop out of hospital
JOAN Llewellyn, the woman struck by a bullet from a gun wielded by her husband who went on a murderous rampage in Three Hills, St Mary, before killing himself, is now out of hospital.
Llewellyn was flown to the United States for treatment in April, two weeks after her husband, Corporal Wayne Llewellyn killed her mother Rachel Brown, father Valda Brown, brother John Townsend and 16-year-old daughter Jorghian Flynn and critically wounded her, before turning the gun on himself.
The attack left Mrs Llewellyn, who was estranged from her husband, unable to walk, numb from the waist down and with her family fearing that she would never walk again.
Over the weekend, her attorney Linton Gordon told the Observer that Mrs Llewellyn, who had been shot in the neck, was out of hospital and was undergoing therapy in the US.
According to Gordon, the 40-year-old woman, who had been a client of his prior to the attack, is now able to sit up, move her hands and is feeling sensation in her legs.
“She hopes to walk again,” said Gordon.
The couple of 13 years had separated, with Mrs Llewellyn leaving the marital home a month prior to the shooting and returning to her family home in Three Hills, St Mary, with her daughter.
The cop, who was assigned to the Mandeville police Accident Reconstruction Unit, travelled to St Ann early on the morning of April 7 this year, entered his wife’s parents’ home and began firing his service weapon.
A neighbour said he heard the wife calling for help and when he went inside the house he discovered three of the bodies. The fourth body was found outside.
After the horrific crime, residents said Llewellyn went to his sister-in-law’s house several metres away and tried to persuade her to let him in. When she refused, he reportedly turned the gun on himself.
