Granville move closer to semis of Trelawny Major League
HAMMERSMITH, Trelawny — Leaders Granville FC moved to within a point of securing a place in the semi-finals of the Trelawny Football Association’s National Rums of Jamaica Major League after beating strugglers Preston FC 2-1 in a return-round game at Carter Centre on Saturday.
Granville’s win improved their points tally to 36 and they will need just a point from their remaining two games to take their place in the top-four play-offs for the title and a place in the Western Confederation Super League next season.
Two early goals set Preston back on their heels as they extended their winless run to seven games and are a point above the relegation zone.
Larone Clarke scored in the 11th minute, George Sylvester added another in the 13th minute for Granville, while Dewey Thomas scored a late consolation goal for Preston in the 71st minute.
Holland scored a big 5-0 win over Kinloss to join Invaders on 31 points and tied for second place with all five goals coming in a 20-minute burst in the first half.
Romaine Lewis scored a first-half hat-trick for Holland, netting in the 20th, 21st and 32nd minutes, while Collin James scored in the 12th and 30th minutes.
Invaders stayed infront of Holland on goal difference with a 2-0 win over Classic, who will be relegated with late goals from Omar Williams in the 83rd and Roy-Dean Thomas in the 89th minute.
Duanvale and Jackson town both scored 2-1 wins over Flames FC and Spicy Hill, respectively, while Palmento and Clarks Town were scoreless.
