Plantain chips
Dear Editor,
Since the appearance of my letter, “Too much salt”, in the Observer of June 17, I have been chided for the error of my ways.
My claim that the salt-laden product was packaged in Jamaica turned out to be incorrect. The chips were actually produced abroad and “packed for” a company in Jamaica. Mea maxima culpa. Had my vision been blurred by an overdose of sodium chloride, perhaps?
On Saturday one of my sisters introduced me to a favourite snack of hers – St Mary’s plantain chips – made right here in Jamaica. I found them quite tasty.
I’ve decided that they’ll be a fixture on my grocery list from now on.
