Disappointing rally – Western teams fail to impress in U-14 basketball
MONTEGO BAY, St James – DESPITE home court advantage, neither Western Conference representative Herbert Morrison Technical or Muschett High were able to make much impression at Saturday’s ISSA/KFC All-island Boys’ Under-14 basketball rally at the Montego Bay Cricket Club.
Herbert Morrison won one preliminary round game and advanced to the consolation play-offs where they were beaten 44-25 by Glenmuir High, while Muschett lost both preliminary round games.
The teams were hoping to replicate Muschett girls’ victory in the All-island Girls’ Open, when they turned back Southern and Central Conference opponents to win western Jamaica’s first All-island crown, a month ago.
Herbert Morrison had beaten Knox College 32-30 in the opening game, but were then hammered 57-15 by Ardenne High who went on to lose in the finals to Kingston College, in a match-up of Southern Conference schools.
Muschett High, who were Western Conference runners-up, lost both first round games, beaten 31-27 by Glenmuir and 42-20 by Kingston College and failed to advance.
The six teams were separated into two groups of three teams, playing each other once before the top two advanced.
The winners met in the finals, while the runners-up played for third place.
