Basic school champs gets underway next week
THE twice postponed INSPORTS Basic Schools Track and Field Championships will now be held on Monday and Tuesday at the Excelsior High School playfield, commencing at 10:00 am each day.
Approximately 35 schools will be participating in the two-day championships, with Excelsior the defending champions. Former champions Elim Early Childhood and Citizen’s Advice Bureau/RJR are also participating.
Last year, Excelsior won with a combined boys and girls total of 201 points from Citizen’s Advice Bureau/RJR 132, St Francis 100, Elim Early Childhood 91 and Silverstone and Silverstone with 81 points.
Several new basic schools have entered for the first time. They are John Mills, Everton Park, Creative Mine Early Childhood, Wilbert Stewart, Herrick Early Childhood, Vouch Sylvia Foote Basic, Auburn Basic and Kidz In Paradise.
Other schools participating are Jahmona, Kid’s Choice, Alpha, Harvest Temple, Silverstone, Bethany, Galilee, Obistan Kinder Prep, Anana Marga, Knolis, Lalyce Gray.
The events for Class One boys and girls to be contested are the 80-metre dash, 60-metre obstacle race and the 4×50-metre relay. The events for Class Two for both boys and girls, will be the 60-metre dash, 50-metre obstacle race and 4×50 metres relay.
For Class 3 boys and girls, the events will be the 30-metre dash, 40-metre obstacle race and 4×50 metres relay. The open events for boys and girls are standing jump, 50-metre hurdles, 60-metre potato race and 4×100-metre relay.
