Sharpe’s Rebels battle Circus Circle in top of the table clash
THE Men’s Outdoor Hockey Premier League will end this weekend, though the winner will not be known until next week because of a rescheduled match.
Leaders Sharpe’s Rebels (17 points) take on second-placed Circus Circle (16 points) in the feature today at 3:30 pm, after St Andrew Hockey Club face Tropics in the Women’s Outdoor Premier League at 2:00 pm at the Mona facility.
The most attacking team in the league, Circus Circle have scored 19 goals this season with Charles Burton and Gerald Richards (four goals each), as well as, Aubyn Ferguson and Kishawn Smith (three goals each) standing out as the fearsome foursome.
Already boasting a 1-0 win over Sharpe’s earlier in the season, Circus Circle will enter the match as favourites, but they have been very porous in defence after conceding 17 goals, the same as cellar team Explorers (seven points).
Sharpe’s, however, have the best defence as they have let in only seven goals, the best of the six-team competition, and their attack is penetrative with the league’s top scorer Giovanni Gordon (seven goals), with the support of Kimani Airey (three goals).
Tomorrow, third-placed Munro College Old Boys (13 points), with still a game in hand, will play Raiders United (eight points) who are second from bottom at 4:00 pm. Later at 5:30 pm, JDF (12 points) will confront Explorers.
Munro College Old Boys will play Raiders United again next week Sunday in the rescheduled match. If Munro Old Boys win both matches against Raiders they will win the Men’s Outdoor Premier League.
St Andrew Hockey Club will again play tomorrow, this time against Sharpe’s Rebels in the day’s opening match at 2:30 pm in Women’s Hockey Premier League.
