My Kingston – Shane Alexis
What are your earliest memories of Kingston?
The green JOS bus I would take to school and around. Riding my BMX bicycle up and down and visiting Bean’s cycle shop on Half-Way-Tree Road. Playing video games like Pac-Man and Donkey Kong and remembering when television would sign on at four in the afternoon.
What do you miss when you’re not in Kingston?
The energy of the city. Whenever I return from overseas, once I step off the plane at Norman Manley International airport. I feel an energy, and a sense of music almost goes off.
What are your favourite home comforts?
My wife Anna, my couch and my slippers.
What would you do if you were mayor (of Kingston) for a day?
Try to keep the job for at least another day.

Individuel by Mont Blanc.
What is your preferred beverage?
Johnnie Walker on the rocks.
What was your most memorable meal in Kingston?
A large corned beef sandwich from a man named Juicy who used to frequent the roads and stop by while I was attending Campion College. When you finished one of his sandwiches, you’d almost feel full for three days.
What are your current projects?
Bringing more attention to health-care reform and improving the social infrastructure. I’m also working on a gardening project at home, trying to prune and tame some wild bougainvillea.
What upsets you?
Ignorance.
