Thomas second in hurdles at French meet
JAMAICANS had to settle for two runners-up spots in yesterday’s international track and field meeting in Sotteville, France.
National record-holder Dwight Thomas was beaten in the 110m hurdles, while Kimmari Roach also finished second in the 100m final on a day that saw relatively slow times in the sprint races.
Thomas, who ran 13.16 seconds for second place to Cuba’s World record-holder Dayron Robles in Switzerland on Thursday, could only manage 13.42 seconds yesterday, finishing behind America Tyron Atkins, who won in 13.35.
In the men’s 100, Jamaica’s Roach was second in 10.34 seconds (-1.0 m/s) to Trinidad and Tobago’ Keston Bledman’s 10.25, with Marlon Devonish of Great Britain third in 10.42.
Double IAAF World Junior champion Dexter Lee, who ran in borrowed gear and a pair of spikes that were too big after his luggage failed to show up, was fifth in 10.46 seconds, his slowest time in more than two years, while junior Kemar Bailey Cole was last in 10.63 in his debut on the circuit.
There was a clean sweep of the top three places for NACAC nationals in the men’s 400m as Cuba’s Omar Ciceneros won in 45.77 seconds, beating Costa Rica’s Nery Brenes, 45.84, and Bahamas’ Ramon Miller, 46.09.
