H’View, W’house in 2-2 thriller
FORMER champions Harbour View FC and Waterhouse battled to an exciting 2-2 draw in the feature match of the eighth round of the Sherwin Williams Women’s Football League at Duhaney Park yesterday.
Junielle Watkins (3rd) and Tasheka Small put Waterhouse 2-0 up at the interval, but second-half goals from Shavelle Martin and an own-goal from Cashay Spence meant the teams had to share the points.
The result saw Waterhouse slipping one place to fourth with 13 points, while Harbour View remain sixth with 10.
In other games, Los Perfectos blanked UWI 15-0; Barbican and Trelawny Women scored identical 6-0 winners over Olympic Gardens and St Thomas, respectively, while Portmore Strikers turned back the National Under-17 Reggae Girls, 3-0.
At Duhaney Park, Small fired Waterhouse into the lead after just three minutes and Watkins added another 15 minutes later to send the Michael Lowe-coached side 2-0 up at the interval.
However, after the break Martin pulled a goal back for the Stars of the East on the hour mark before Spence re-directed a cross into her own net to tie the proceedings at 2-2.
Both teams then received good chances to steal all three points afterwards, but neither could take advantage of their opportunities.
Meanwhile, Barbican (22 points) kept their six-point lead intact, ahead of Portmore Strikers, following a 6-0 drubbing of Olympic Gardens in the lone match on Tuesday.
Nickhima James scored twice, while Kessian Walker, Shanique Smith, Kemesha Woodfine and an own-goal accounted for the others.
At Racing field, Portmore Strikers stayed second after goals from Venecia Reid, Nadola Chase and Kay-Ann West carried them to a 3-0 win over the Reggae Girlz.
At Brooks Park, Los Perfectos continued UWI’s miserable start to their debut season as they handed the rookies their eighth defeat in as many matches and moved a place up to third on 14 points.
Sashawna Campbell netted six times for the hosts in their massive win over the debutantes, while Carla Daniels, Shanika Ingram and Sasa-Lee Cooper also scored twice for the winners.
At Elleston Wakeland, Simone Gordon scored four times for hosts Trelawny Women who blanked St Thomas, 6-0, to keep that team also winless in eight games.
Gordon scored in the 15th, 41st, 53rd and 66th, while Shanika Williams (59th) and Kemeila Ontroy (76th) got the others for Trelawny, who moved past Olympic and joined Santos in seventh place on nine points.
Meanwhile, the draw for the Colourscape Women’s KO competition takes place at the offices of the JFF today at 11:00.
