Summerbell ready to fend off Thundersport challenge
LEADING the point standing for the Caribbean Motor Racing Championships (CMRC) top driver, David Summerbell Jnr, while preserving his Evolution 8 for the Caribbean showdown, says he is ready for the Independence of Speed Dover meet this Sunday.
Although Summerbell has realised many victories in the 2011 season, the ‘King’ is leaving nothing to chance and is even filling up his Evo with a new Total racing gas, to help ward off anything that Doug ‘Hollywood’ Gore may throw at him.
With Gore’s Audi TT hot on his heels, Summerbell has also upgraded his brakes to handle the high velocity with which he plans to charge the Dover track.
“We are also making changes to go faster, but with the CMRC just around the corner, which is very important to me, we have to preserve the car. We also have to prepare it to be shipped to Barbados in just a couple of days after Dover, so we are under a bit of pressure with those preparations and these are things Doug doesn’t have to think about,” Summerbell told Auto.
And while the Summerbell vs Gore saga continues to burn the circuit, Christopher Campbell is back in the ring heavily armed with his BMW M3 to challenge the top two.
Marck Carey will also make his appearance in his carbon-fibre body Mitsubishi Evolution, making the Thundersport race one not to be missed. “Our emphasis now to just finish, as this is a homemade car and we are not professional car manufacturers, we already have a handicap, but we are definitely striving for a good showing this time around,” said Carey.
Summerbell has under his belt his international racing experience and the Dover track is as familiar to him as his name. With his many wins and his superb performance, this Independence of Speed encounter has racing fans weak with anticipation, as they wait with waited breath to see the “King” take the track, against the wiles of Hollywood Gore.
