My Kingston — Mark Lindo
What are your earliest memories of Kingston?
Bicycle riding with my brothers all around Jacks Hill in the summertime and stopping at every mango tree along the way.
What would you do if you were mayor of Kingston for a day?
Focus on the re-gentrification and revitalisation of the downtown area, street by street, with financial, shopping, art, theatre districts, and the like. I would love to manage a project like this. It’s something I think about often.
What cologne are you currently splashing?
The One by Dolce & Gabbana.
What was your last bit of retail therapy?
Splurging on clothes for the SPF Weekend at the Town Center at Boca Raton.
Name the last film you saw that left an impression.
Love and Other Drugs with Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal. It was a funny and unexpectedly touching film.
What is your preferred beverage?
Appleton V/X & Coke.
Share some places in your black book.
Tensing Pen, Negril; Paris, France, Florence, Italy and Madrid, Spain.
How do you unwind after a long day?
Running at the Mona Dam.
What was the last song you listened to that moved you?
One by One by Laza Morgan featuring Mavado.
Where and when last were you most happy?
I am generally a happy person, but Tensing Pen in Negril is a place where I am most at peace whenever I get a chance to go there.
What upsets you?
People who ask the same questions over and over again or take a long time to get something simple.
What’s the secret to hosting a great party?
Proper planning and even better execution.
What’s the biggest no-no for a party?
Bad music and a slow bar.
Who’s the savviest and shrewdest party promoter you look up to?
Our M7 Events group did pretty well in putting together the SPF Weekend along with KLE, BNM, Richie D and Olly Mo in such a short time. M7 consists of mostly businessmen who, until now, just had the annual Soirée Christmas Eve party. We had a vision for a premium weekend where our contemporaries could enjoy themselves. We just started to put the pieces together and it worked. I am very proud of the entire SPF Weekend team for putting on such a well-executed weekend in our first year.
So, will there be another SPF next year?
Most definitely. It’s back for the Independence weekend of 2012.
Any other upcoming projects you’re working on?
A commercial project in Port Antonio.
If you were stranded on an island alone, what three things would you need to have with you?
My woman, a comfortable bed and a large LCD TV.
What would be your advice to a first-time visitor to Kingston?
Take the time to go to some of the local spots, not just the typical tours or places on offer. Immerse yourself in the local culture a little, and definitely come to Soirée SPF for an amazing beach party experience in St Ann.
What is your philosophy?
Embrace life.
