Mel C criticises Ri-Ri for being too sexual for her young fans
She might be a big fan of the Barbadian singer but Melanie Christholme (Mel C) has spoken out about Rihanna’s ‘inappropriate’ overtly sexual behaviour. The former Spice Girl believes that the singer has a responsibility to younger children to protect them, something that she has realised since becoming a mother. Mel, 37, took to Twitter and posted, “For the record, I am a big fan of Rihanna, I am also a mother.” She said, “People have to take some responsibility because we’ve got to a point where over-sexualisation of young children has gone too far,” the Mirror reported. “I think music is a big part of that. Women in music, very successful women, are extremely sexual and they have young fans. It is inappropriate. Rihanna has a responsibility and although culture’s always changing, it’s changed too much. It needs to be dealt with. It’s reached saturation point; we owe it to our kids to protect them,” the singer said. Mel C, who gave birth to her daughter Scarlet Starr in February 2009 accepts that Rihanna might not understand her viewpoint given that she doesn’t have children of her own.

YouTube singing sensation Rebecca Black’s says goodbye to school
She had a meteoric rise to stardom when her homemade music video received over twenty million views online. So it is no surprise that Rebecca Black would have collected a few haters along the way. However, the 14-year-old singer is already feeling the negative effects of her fame and has been pulled out of school because she was being bullied. Talking to ABC News the Friday singer explained that after the release of her single, she was picked on so much that her mother decided to home-school her. “When I walk by they’ll start singing ‘Friday’ in a really nasally voice … Or, you know, they’ll be like, oh hey, Rebecca, guess what day it is?” she explained. Now she’s hoping she’ll become more than a joke one-hit wonder, with the release of her second single My Moment. The teen star’s new effort comes complete with familiar auto-tuning and catchy music and lyrics. It is a little less cringe-worthy than Friday, which was maligned for its cringe-worthy lyrics and adolescent video. The new song sees her have a dig at the critics of Friday, with her singing: “Weren’t you the one who said I would be nothing. But I’m about to prove you wrong. I’m doing big things, things you’ve never dreamed of. I hope you’re happy because I’m about to blow up.” The accompanying video is still heavy on the cheese with Rebecca spinning around and blowing bubbles, hanging out with her teenage friends in a limousine and going shopping. The star is also working on a five track EP, which will be released later this month.

It’s the big hoedown!
Together they garnered an astounding 122.4 million votes between them but American Idol winner Scotty McCreery and runner-up Lauren Alaina may be making an attempt to divide their fans. The pair, both managed by American Idol svengali Simon Fuller, have both released debut music videos for their first singles. It’s a sign that the young country singers are possibly being aimed at slightly different audiences, despite the similarity in their singing and music styles. The Idol contetants, who were linked romantically when 16-year-old Alaina planted a kiss on the lips of McCreery, 17, after it was announced he had won American Idol, have much in common. She hails from Tennessee, while he is a Carolina boy. Each has been given a specifically tailored video narrative but neither is depicted as a protagonist in a love affair. Instead, McCreery plays Cupid to other couples in I Love You This Big, and Alaina predictably plays tribute to her life-giver in Like My Mother Does. Both singers are expected to release their debut albums in the fall.
