StGC face Wolmer’s in Locker Room final
HOSTS St George’s College and Urban Area rivals Wolmer’s Boys’ will challenge for the Locker Room Trophy and the winner’s prize of $30,000 when both teams clash this afternoon at 4:00 o’ clock at Winchester Park.
If the teams are tied at the end of normal time, the game will proceed directly to a sudden-death penalty shoot-out to determine the winner.
Munro College and Spalding High will square off in the curtain-raiser at 2:00 pm.
In yesterday’s opener of the St George’s College Invitational Tournament, the home team, boosted by a first-half brace from Oshane Boothe, clipped Munro College 2-1.
Under the guidance of recently-appointed head coach Alrick Clarke, Munro battled gamely in the second half and pulled a goal back through Lenworth Pryce.
In the second match of the double-header, Wolmer’s comfortably disposed of Spalding, 3-0, courtesy of first-half strikes from Christopher Campbell and D’Andre Smith and Michael Warren’s second-half effort.
St George’s coach Neville Bell said the win was a good start for his team, despite a late scare from Munro.
“I believe this was a good start for us. Munro gave us a good challenge. I expect an even tougher game tomorrow but I’m confident we will do well,” he said.
His counterpart at Wolmer’s, Ludlow Bernard, said he expects an exciting game given the attacking nature of both teams.
“Looking forward to this game as it should be a high quality one. Games between St George’s and Wolmer’s are usually a thriller because both teams play attacking football.” Bernard said.
